Brain Injury Voices won the prestigious 2014 HAVE Award (Hospital Award for Volunteer Excellence) sponsored by the American Hospital Association. This national award is given to just four exemplary volunteer programs each year. Voices is the only brain injury volunteer program to have won this award. We are all so proud.
Nine members of Voices and three support people went to Washington, DC from May 4th-7th, 2014 for the recognition ceremony during the American Hospital Association annual conference. We made the most of our short time in DC. In addition to receiving the HAVE Award, we met with the Brain Injury Association of America, advocated for the importance of rehab therapies with Maine Senator Angus King and Congresswoman Chellie Pingree and toured Walter Reed Military Hospital. The entire trip was devoted to increasing brain injury awareness and expanding our mission to educate, advocate and support. It was the experience of a lifetime for all who went.
